CNN Travel Named TUBA One of 50 Reasons Bangkok Is the World’s Greatest City

It is a list about a whole city — the markets, the street food, the temples, the river, the noise. Being one line in it is a strange and lovely thing for a bar on a side soi in Ekkamai.

What CNN picked up on

CNN filed us under a heading we could not have written better ourselves: “Eat among forgotten 20th-century curios.”

That is the whole idea, and it is not set dressing. TUBA is a working antique and vintage furniture business that grew a bar inside it. The lamps, the chairs, the glassware, the film posters, the odd mid-century objects on the shelf behind you — it is a collection, it is genuinely for sale, and it changes as things find new homes.

Which means the room you sit in tonight is not quite the room someone photographed last year. That is the point.

Can you really buy the furniture?

Yes. If something catches your eye — a lamp, a chair, a cabinet, a piece of art — ask any staff member and we will tell you about it. Plenty of it has gone home with guests who came in for one drink.

Come in daylight if you want to see it properly

Most people meet TUBA at night, under warm light, with a band playing. That is the version we are known for. But the collection reads completely differently in the afternoon — you notice the detail instead of the mood.

We open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 2:00 a.m., every day. Come early, take your time with the room, stay for happy hour at 5:00 p.m., and you will still be in your seat before the music starts at 8:30 p.m.

Planning a visit

TUBA is at 34 Room 11-12A, Soi Ekkamai 21 (Thonglor 20), Bangkok 10110 — BTS Thonglor Exit 3 or BTS Ekkamai Exit 1, then a short motorbike or taxi ride. Parking out front is free from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; after that the building runs valet at 100 THB per car.

Live music plays every night from 8:30 p.m. — jazz on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Thai-nostalgia 90s the rest of the week, and a 90s DJ in the Dining zone on Friday and Saturday.
