Inside TUBA: The Vintage Bar Hidden in a Working Antique Gallery

Most bars decorate. TUBA does something stranger: the room is a working antique gallery that happens to serve dinner, pour cocktails and put a band on stage every night. The lamp above your table has a price. So does the chair you are sitting in.

We have been doing this on Soi Ekkamai 21 since 2005. Here is what the room actually is, and how to use it.

What is TUBA, exactly?

The full name is TUBA Design Furniture & Restaurant — and the order of those words is the honest one. It began as a furniture and antiques business, and the bar grew inside it. Twenty years later the two have not separated. You eat Thai and European food, drink cocktails, and listen to live music, all inside a collection that is still being bought and sold.

The result is a room that no designer could have drawn: mid-century lamps next to religious statuary, film posters over red velvet, a mannequin where a mannequin has no business being. It is layered because it was collected, not styled.

Can you actually buy the furniture?

Yes. If something in the room catches you — a lamp, a chair, a cabinet, a piece of art — ask a staff member. Plenty of it has gone home with guests who came in for a drink.

The three zones, and how they feel

TUBA is bigger inside than it looks, and each room has its own temperature.

• Dining zone — the main room, and the densest part of the collection. Best for dinner, groups and first visits. All ages welcome. On Friday and Saturday a 90s DJ plays here from 8:30 p.m.
• Live Music zone — the stage room, 20+ only. Jazz on Tuesday and Thursday; live Thai-nostalgia 90s the rest of the week. Music starts at 8:30 p.m., seating from 8:00 p.m.
• Outdoor zone — quieter, open air, the only smoking area, and the easiest place to hold a conversation at 11 p.m.

The two private rooms

Behind the main floor are two rooms most first-time guests never see.

The Gallery Room holds up to 25 guests — the smaller, more intimate of the two. The Museum Room holds up to 80 (35 seated, 60–80 for a standing cocktail event) and comes with its own pool table. Both take two booking slots a day: 11:00–18:00 and 18:00–01:00.

When should I come?

It depends what you want from the night.

• To look at the room properly — come in daylight. We open at 9:00 a.m., and the collection reads completely differently before the lights go down.
• For drinks — happy hour runs daily 5:00–8:00 p.m.: cocktails buy 1 get 1, draft beer buy 2 get 1.
• For music — arrive by 8:00 p.m. and be seated before the 8:30 p.m. start.
• For a quiet dinner — early week, Dining zone, before 8:00 p.m.

Practical things

Open daily 9:00 a.m.–2:00 a.m. Free parking out front 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., valet 100 THB per car after that. No dress code. Small dogs up to 10 kg welcome in a bag or stroller. Free Wi-Fi. Cash, cards and QR all accepted.
